From injury assessment to getting back to the sport you love.
Whether you've picked up an injury while running, playing sport, training in the gym or simply being active, we understand how frustrating it can be when pain stops you doing the things you enjoy.
At First Touch Osteopathy, we combine individual injury assessment, appropriate hands-on treatment and progressive rehabilitation to help you understand your injury and work towards returning to activity.
From recent injuries to recurring problems that keep interrupting your training, we'll build an approach around your symptoms, goals and the demands of your sport.

Your rehabilitation should prepare you for the activities you actually want to do.
A runner returning from an Achilles injury will have different requirements from a rugby player recovering from a shoulder problem or someone looking to return to weight training.
We'll consider your sport, current activity levels, previous injuries and the demands you need to meet.
Your rehabilitation may include strengthening, mobility, balance, coordination and sport-specific exercises, progressing as appropriate for your recovery.
Whether you're training for an event, returning to your local team or simply want to exercise without recurring discomfort, we'll work with you towards your individual goals.
Every injury is different, and your rehabilitation should reflect that. Our approach considers not only your symptoms but also the physical demands of the activities you want to return to.
We begin by discussing your injury, symptoms, training history and goals.
Your assessment may include movement testing, strength testing and examination of the affected area to help identify the nature of the problem and determine the appropriate next steps.
Where appropriate, hands-on treatment may be used alongside advice on managing pain, adjusting activity and introducing suitable exercises.
We'll discuss what you can continue doing safely and what may need temporarily modifying.
As your symptoms and physical capacity change, your rehabilitation may progress through strengthening, mobility, balance and activity-specific exercises.
We'll tailor your programme to your goals, available equipment and the demands of your sport.
Returning to sport involves more than simply waiting for pain to disappear.
Where appropriate, we'll use your symptoms, strength, movement and ability to tolerate increasing activity to help guide your return to training and competition.

Assessment and rehabilitation for running-related injuries, whether you're preparing for your first 5K or training for a marathon.

Support for people experiencing injuries or recurring discomfort associated with strength training and exercise.

Rehabilitation for injuries associated with football, rugby, hockey and other sports involving running, jumping and changes of direction.

Support for people who want to return to walking, hiking, recreational exercise and the physical activities that matter to them.
Few things are more frustrating than returning to training, only for the same problem to reappear.
Recurring injuries can involve several contributing factors, including previous injury, changes in training load, strength, physical capacity and insufficient recovery.
At First Touch, we'll take the time to understand your injury history, current training and the activities that seem to trigger your symptoms.
Where appropriate, we'll develop a rehabilitation plan that considers these factors and helps you progressively rebuild your capacity for the activities you enjoy.
Our aim is to help you understand your problem and develop practical strategies for managing your return to activity.

Not necessarily. Depending on your injury, you may be able to continue certain activities while temporarily modifying others. We'll discuss suitable activity levels following your assessment.
Many sports injuries can be assessed clinically without imaging. If we suspect a fracture, significant structural injury or another problem requiring further investigation, we'll discuss appropriate referral.
Recovery times vary considerably depending on the injury, its severity, your general health and the demands of your sport. We'll discuss realistic expectations and review your progress as rehabilitation continues.
We can assess your injury and, where appropriate, develop a progressive rehabilitation programme tailored to the activities you want to return to.
